Until the end of the 19th century, large holiday homes, medical facilities and hotels were built in a layered structure on the hills of Balatonfüred, a Reform Era spa town on the shore of Lake Balaton. The town shows a relatively integrated and consistent view from the water. Larger-sized buildings occupied the shoreline, while the smaller houses were placed further up on the hills. The northern border of the historical town centre is the Petőfi Sándor utca. In the west, in the former industrial area, malls, restaurants and hotel buildings were raised in the 2000’s. Our site lies on the border of the historical and the recent parts of the town. The placement and the volume of our building aims to follow the layered structure of the town. We have created a cross-shaped layout to break up the volume of the building. We tried to reduce the visible dimensions of the building as much as possible. The facades were opened in all directions. We searched for connection with the surrounding classicist and historic buildings with the use of quality materials and by rewriting the materials of the old buildings. We covered the facade of the building with cast stone elements in multiple colours and textures.

There is currently no five-star rated accommodation around Lake Balaton and in its immediate vicinity. The historical, Reform Ear part of Balatonfüred and its central location within the town creates an ideal location for this type of investment. Our client has therefore decided to build a five-star hotel with fifty rooms. We organized the building in a classic hotel layout. On the ground floor, there is the lobby, the reception area and the restaurant, which is also open towards the garden and the shore promenade. In the northern part of the ground floor, below the ground level, we placed a fitness-wellness area with a swimming pool, a steam room, saunas and massage rooms. The hotel rooms were placed on the first, the second and partially the third floor. A roof-top bar and an exterior pool, which can be covered during winter upon request, are located on the roof level.
