The city of P\u00e9cs became the holder of the European Capital of Culture (ECF) title in 2010. Investments related to the program series were started. Its largest project was the reconstruction of the Zsolnay factory. A new chapter began in the history of the quarter, which was united with the name of the city.<\/p>\n

Much of the buildings were out of use due to technological change and the gradual decline in production. Their cultural exploitation was aroused earlier, but there was no change mostly for financial reasons. The international open design contest was issued in January 2008 by the Municipality of P\u00e9cs MJV. At the design contest, our office, the MCXVI Architects won the 1st prize and was invited to prepare the plans. Separate design teams (10 architects teams) developed each building to provide a high level architectural and technical solution for a task of varying size and complexity. The main point in choosing the architects was to have harmony between the architect and the building, this way, every building found his own architect.<\/p>\n

The various functions of the Zsolnay quarter can be based on the diversity imagined in it. The quarter was divided into four separate yet related subunits during the planning process:<\/p>\n

Artisan\u2019s quarter: The most impressive buildings, richly decorated with the glazed ceramic tiles, such as Zsolnay family and factory history, Art Nouveau Caf\u00e9, event halls, Handicrafts Street, Residences, and Art Auxiliary Affaires were placed here.<\/p>\n

Creation District: It was created by redesigning the former pyrogranite plant and its surroundings, where exhibitions, workshops and art houses host contemporary art works, creative workshops, youth events, rehearsals and event rooms took place.<\/p>\n

Family and Children Quarter: The soul of the area will be the B\u00f3bita Puppet Theater in the Green House (former DO-ZSO), which offers colourful programs for children and adults in its new location. In the quarter, an interactive scientific and technical exhibition, craftsmanships, family playgrounds, open-air stage will make visitor\u2019s stay enjoyable.<\/p>\n

University district: The buildings of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, which are separated by Route 6, are occupied by the institutes of the PTE Faculty of Arts, creating an ideal venue for the establishment of a high-level art education base.<\/p>\n
