Budva is a historic town on the coast of Montenegro, which is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Tourism is also the most important sector in the city’s economy, but its development is overshadowed by summer congestion and infrastructural deficiencies. The XXI. By the turn of the 20th century, mass tourism transformed the coastal image of the city: huge hotel complexes, dramatically different from their surroundings, were built, far surpassing the character of the medieval old town in scale. Budva has increasingly lost its uniqueness and is threatened by the facelessness of mass tourism.<\/p>\n

In 2022, the city was awarded the title of European Capital of Culture, and in preparation for this, an international design competition was launched to rethink the built and landscape environment and image of the coast.<\/p>\n
