In the historic centre of Tokaj, in a beautiful garden with ancient trees, we were commissioned to renovate a former kindergarten building. It was built in the 1890s in a romantic style and had been out of use for a long time.
The extensions that had been added spontaneously over the decades are to be demolished in order to restore the original elegance of the house. The change in the function led to a complete redesign of the interior spaces. The concept was to evoke the atmosphere of taverns with checked tablecloths, but with a contemporary, distinct and handcrafted character.
An inescapable theme in Tokaj is the drink called ‘Tokaji aszú’. The colours typical of the grape ripening process, from golden yellow to deep brown, have inspired the colour scheme of the interiors.
